Goodbye World

To spend time with a globe is to wonder.
People and places, future and past, space and time.
A globe is a reservoir for all of this.

--from the Replogle website

Luther Replogle began creating globes with his wife in their Chicago apartment in 1930. The company grew, creating a wide range of globes from affordable tin to elaborate handcrafted models with mahogany bases that retailed for many thousands of dollars. The digital age transformed the way people access news and information. Now, as it is with books, magazines and newspapers, globe sales have decreased steadily. The large Chicago area Replogle facility has been sold, the company will continue to manufacture in smaller digs. I would have loved to have spent a day there.

I wonder if Edward Gorey had a copy of this rare book in his collection?
