Blue Mountain

Breakfast of the Birds
As a young woman, Gabriele Münter (1877-1962) was unable to enroll in the traditional German art academies because she was female. She enrolled in a progressive school where she began an enduring relationship with her instructor, Vassily Kandinsky. Many of her paintings include a surprising element; perhaps one radiant spot of color or an unusual composition.
In her enchanting painting, Breakfast of the Birds; the viewer becomes the subject; a woman looking out into a world of loveliness.
