The sculptor Isamu Noguchi first created his bamboo and mulberry paper 'light' sculptures in 1951, and continued creating new designs for the remainder of his life. The collection of sculptures, which he named 'Akari' (the Japanese word for illuminate) are delicate and nearly weightless. Electric light filtered through the natural paper transforms to a soft muted glow. As a group, the lamps seem to engage with one another...poetic, lyrical, luminous.
