Frank Frazetta

Good girls go to Heaven, bad girls go everywhere.
--Mae West

Frank Frazetta died today at the age of 82. The man could paint a fantasy better than anyone. Perhaps best known for his defining image of Conan the Barbarian, he illustrated film posters, book covers and adult comic books before they were dubbed 'graphic novels.' For the debut issue cover of Vampirella (1969); Frazetta depicts 'Vampi' (the nickname she preferred) as confident and unapologetic for her brazen costume or outrageous sexuality. She is nothing like the contemporary creatures of True Blood or Twilight with their tortured duality.
