I miss going to record stores and flipping through rows of wildly different album covers. In a single bin you could find cheesy, horrible, lascivious, and the occasional fresh breeze of brilliance. Barney Bubbles (born Colin Fulcher) designed the cover for Elvis Costello's This Years Model; it is as dynamic and interesting now, as it was some thirty years ago when it was first released. That says a lot.
The Paul Gorman book, Reasons to be Cheerful: The Life and Work of Barney Bubbles, explores his career and his enduring influence.
