The Apartment, released in the summer of 1960, was both
a commercial and critical success; one fan took a moment to write director Billy Wilder
a congratulatory note.
Months later at the 33rd Academy Awards, The Apartment won Oscars for Best Film,
Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Art Direction and Best Film Editing.
