Magnum opus

There are many differences between the film The Wizard of Oz (1939) and the book which it is based upon, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz (1900).

Most noticeable, in the book Dorothy is not a damsel in distress;
with smarts, courage and moxie she rescues her friends.

Despite their differences, both are shining examples of perfection for their
respective worlds of books and film.

Author L. Frank Baum created the Land of Oz:

It was the Wicked Witch of the East that enchanted the axe of woodsman Nick Chopper. He promptly cut off each of his limbs and his own head before being resurrected in tin.

In the book, the Winged Monkeys were good
but enslaved by the witch and later freed by Glinda.

Originally, Dorothy's slippers were silver.
Realizing the power and vibrancy of Technicolor,
the filmmakers created Ruby slippers.

I love the wonderful Oz illustrations of W.W. Denslow
